The second day of the Before I Die NM Festival features a Dia de los Muertos party in a cemetery, a tour of Passages International, and memorialization activities. Most Festival events are free, but the party costs $25. Registration is appreciated so we can plan for turnout. Register here.

October 31 is Halloween and the start of Dia de los Muertos.

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Death Cafe conversation. At Death Cafes, people drink tea or coffee, eat cake or cookies and discuss death. Refreshments provided. Location: FRENCH – Lomas, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE (free)

1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tour at Passages International, the Albuquerque-based leading supplier of green funeral goods and natural funeral supplies. Location: 4516 Anaheim Ave. NE (free)

4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Learn about Dia de los Muertos traditions, particularly the importance of honoring your loved ones who have died by placing their photos on an ofrenda. Gail Rubin will illustrate this talk with clips from the animated film, Coco. The Children’s Grief Center will provide memorialization activities, such as making paper marigolds and decorating picture frames. Location: The Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE (free)

6:30 p.m. Dia de los Muertos party in Sunset Memorial Park Pavilion. NE. Bring photos of deceased loved ones, both people and pets, for a community ofrenda of remembrance. Location: Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Dinner and drinks included in ticket cost ($25)
